Do I Need To Replace Catalytic Converter

I am replacing the second catalytic converter because the pipe at the flex joint has completely detached. There is a second catalytic converter in this car that is integrated into the intake manifold. Should I replace that converted as well. Will the new converter go bad faster if the first isn’t properly doing its job anymore.

If they do not know what the rear o2 is doing then they cannot possibly know the converter is in fact bad. Having said all of this , unfortunately , Nissan converters are know to fail regularly. P.S. no mileage is stated ( and likely you are over ) but ALL converters on any make are covered by the manufacturer 8 years / 80,000 miles. P.P.S.

The catalytic converter on my 2001 Subaru Legacy L was hanging down, scraping on pavement. Drove it to shop. They said need new converters , that pipe broke. I said can't you just hang it back up. They said converters (2) were too beat up from it dragging on ground. I had family in the hospital and had no time so I took their word for it.

Cost to replace the catalytic converter depends on the car and whether you can do the work yourself. I replaced the cat on one of my vehicles several years ago with an aftermarket part and I think the cost was all of about $150, but I bolted it on myself. (I did need to replace it because the flange on the old one busted off.)

Vehicle: 2005 Prius. Have you gone to the dealer and been told you need to replace the catalytic converter ? If so it was probably quoted somewhere between $1700 and $2100 for the repair. I live in Western Kentucky around Kentucky Lake and my Prius is a 2005 model with 129,xxx miles and I was quoted $1800.00 for the repair.
