I did a full trans and torque converter drain and fill about 6 months back. I added about 8 quarts then fired it up, I added a quart at a time until I got to about 12. My fluid level is right between the hash marks, and has been shifting fine. Mine also is 2000, with 4r100 . I used Mercon V not the Mercon that the owners book calls for.

Initially I put in 8 quarts, fired up, and eventually put 4 more, total of 12. If you still have some regular Mercon in there, you might want to redrain torque converter and refill the 4 quarts or so. You'll be fine with the new fluid. Most are exactly the same with changes through the years. The exception to the rule is the navigator converter which is basically an E4OD converter . The rest of the 4r100 's have neutral or low/med stall pumps.(pump is also known as impeller) Late production models in diesel applications got a Lower stall that was then found in diesel 5r110w units.
