I have a .xlsx excel file that I'm trying to convert to PDF that has 10 sheets in and it's crashing Excel . We have a user who spends all day creating excel spreadsheets, then saving them as pdf 's for customers. Recently it has started intermittently freezing at the 'save as pdf ' stage. Sometimes 100 or more can be saved before it freezes , other times only 2 or 3.

When I convert this document to an Acrobat PDF file the top 5 lines do not remain frozen. I have seen other spreadsheets in PDF files where this freezing of the top portion of the document works. After a little experimentaion it appears that Excel recalculates the workbook before each PDF is generated. Why this should be the case is not immediately obvious. The solution was to insert the line. Application.Calculation = xlManual. at the beginning of the routine and turn it back to automatic at the end.
