Listen, there's nothing wrong with wanting as much performance out of your car as you can get, and this isn't to say anything about you personally, but this is a dumb idea. 1) Gutting the cat changes the pressure characteristics of your exhaust system (makes it more free flowing). This will not necessarily make your car sound or run better.

Dealer said the parts alone are $2000! So, I am waiting for the thing to clog up completely but I have heard of either removing or gutting the convertor.

Gutting Out My Cat I have been working on busting out the Catalytic converter on my truck I finally go in a position to see down the pipe and it appears that there is a metal blockade the covers most of the area I'm trying to bust out . what do you guys do to get around that thing because I cant seem to do it.

Gutting your cat shouldn't have any affect on the way the engine runs, or on your check engine light. Your O2 sensor is upstream of the converter , so the ECM won't know anything is different. If you gut the cats, you'll definitely get a check engine light on, and a hard code set in your computer. It's possible to trick the sensor so you don't get the light. Look at the headers at 4X4 Parts. The headers remove the upper cats but they have a fix for the sensors.
