Re: 1989 22RE #2 Cylinder no Compression . « Reply # 2 on: May 02, 2015, 06:55:33 PM ». You should do a leak down on # 2 if you don't have access to a leak down tester you can rig one up with the hose from your compression tester. Bring the engine to TDC# 2 pressurize the cylinder and see where the air is going.
https://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=98843.0I didnt think that compression was an issue. thought it was electrical. I just pulled the head off and the valves look fine and so do the head gasket. pretty stumped on where to go from here. doesn't make any sense to me how cyl 2 can have no compression . poured oil in each cylinder . there hasn't been a change in the levels.

https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/no-compression-in-cylinder-2.498588/So I ran out and bought the screw in compression gauge and learned something -- compression in cylinder 1,3,4, and 5 is 185-195, compression in 2 is zero, and zero with oil added. I noticed that the manual calls for PCV system service at 60,000 mile interval but there was no mention of this being done on the 60,000 mile service record.
http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/82648-no-compression-cylinder-2-98-s70/Reasons for No Compression in All Cylinders. 1. Broken Timing Belt or Chain: Every car engine needs a timing belt or chain to keep the camshaft in correlation with the crankshaft. When these parts fail the camshaft stops turning which causes the intake and exhaust valve not to open and close.
If you experience low compression on all cylinders, it may be caused by a faulty camshaft timing belt or chain , but it could also be caused by a previously wrong installed belt or chain. The timing belt or chain uses the rotation of the crankshaft and transfers power to the camshaft to control the valves' opening times.
Low compression readings in adjacent cylinders are typically a sign of a blown head gasket. If every cylinder returns low compression levels, it could be an indication of worn-out rings and cylinders.
How to Fix Low Compression in One Cylinder. The first step to repair is to be sure that the compression in one of the engine cylinders is actually low. Use a compression gauge to check the measurement. In case you don’t have one, take the car to an auto servicing shop so that a mechanic can do the testing.
