Office 2007 Converter Pack

Ive seen this issue with Office XP clients, where the compatibility pack sets the default program for the 2007 versions of the files. After installing the compatibility pack , the default program becomes an XML converter , rather than the app itself, so for example a ".xlsx" file doesn't open with Excel, but uses the converter instead.

I have a user running Windows 7 with Office 2003 and the Office 2007 Compatibilty pack installed. He has no problems opening a .DOCX file but when he tries to open an .XLSX file he gets a dialog box saying 'The file is not in a recognizable format.." If he clicks OK the file opens but is not readable.

Office 2003/2007 converter pack Issues I have downloaded and installed the latest converter pack and I am able to open Word docx, but NOT Excel or Power Point. I have also ran all Windows updates.
