When Should You Use DOC vs CBZ?

DOC vs CBZ: Key Differences

• •The core technical difference: DOC relies on lossy compression whereas CBZ uses lossy compression.
• •Neither format changes compression philosophy — both are lossy compression — so any size differences are due to encoding efficiency, not a shift in quality approach.
• •Alpha channel support: CBZ lacks transparency support.
• •File sizes: DOC files typically range 50KB to 5MB and CBZ files 10MB to 500MB per volume.
• •Primary audience: DOC is built for legacy documents, older systems scenarios, while CBZ focuses on digital comics, manga, graphic novels — pick the format that matches your output requirement.
