When Should You Use DOC vs XLS?

DOC vs XLS: Key Differences

• •DOC uses lossy compression while XLS uses lossy compression — both take the same approach to file size management.
• •Since both DOC and XLS use lossy compression, the quality characteristics are comparable — differences in file size come down to how efficiently each format implements compression.
• •How transparency is handled: XLS does not support alpha channels — transparent areas in the source will become opaque.
• •DOC files are typically 50KB to 5MB while XLS files range 50KB to 5MB
• •Primary audience: DOC is built for legacy documents, older systems scenarios, while XLS focuses on legacy spreadsheets, older systems — pick the format that matches your output requirement.
