What is BPG?

Better Portable Graphics (BPG) is a modern image format based on HEVC video compression, offering excellent compression efficiency.

What is K25?

Kodak DC25 Raw (K25) is an early digital camera raw format from Kodak's DC series cameras, preserving sensor data.

When Should You Use BPG vs K25?

BPG vs K25: Key Differences

• •BPG uses lossy compression while K25 uses lossless compression — this is the fundamental technical difference between the two formats.
• •Converting from BPG to K25 changes compression type: lossless source becomes larger but with full quality preservation.
• •Transparency: N/A
• •BPG files are typically 30-50% smaller than JPEG at same quality while K25 files range 2-5MB from early digital cameras
• •Use case fit: BPG targets web images with superior compression and K25 targets vintage kodak digital camera raw processing — your choice depends on which workflow stage you are serving.

Advantages of BPG

• ✓The lossy nature of BPG means file sizes stay reasonable while handling Web images with superior compression efficiently.
• ✓From mobile devices to enterprise servers, BPG is recognized and supported everywhere.
• ✓Storage and bandwidth costs drop significantly when using BPG thanks to its efficient compression.
• ✓BPG is a first-class citizen in all major software ecosystems, from creative suites to development environments.

Advantages of K25

• ✓K25 applies lossless compression specifically calibrated for Vintage Kodak digital camera raw processing.
• ✓K25 enjoys broad native support across operating systems, browsers, and creative tools alike.
• ✓K25 guarantees every bit of the original data survives — no approximations, no shortcuts.
• ✓You will find K25 support built into virtually every tool that handles Vintage Kodak digital camera raw processing — no plugins or converters needed.

Common Use Cases for BPG to K25 Conversion

• Email marketing campaigns
• Presentation graphics
• Blog and article illustrations
• Mobile app UI assets
• Product photography for marketplaces
• Digital art portfolios

Industry Applications

Best Practices for BPG to K25 Conversion

• →Before converting BPG to K25, decide whether you need maximum quality or smallest file size — this determines which format truly fits
• →Save a master copy in a lossless format before converting to K25 — you cannot recover detail lost during lossy compression
• →Check the color profile: BPG images may use a wider gamut than K25 supports, causing a visible shift after conversion
• →Resize images to the final display dimensions before converting — this avoids unnecessary processing of oversized files
• →Run a single test conversion first to verify quality meets your standards
• →Strip unnecessary metadata to reduce file size after conversion
