When Should You Use IIQ vs WBMP?

IIQ vs WBMP: Key Differences

• •IIQ and WBMP diverge on compression: lossless compression for the source, lossless compression for the target.
• •Both formats share lossless compression, so quality behavior is similar across the two — file size differences come from algorithm efficiency rather than compression philosophy.
• •Alpha channel support: WBMP lacks transparency support.
• •File sizes: IIQ files typically range 50-150MB per image from medium-format backs and WBMP files Very small, 1KB for typical icons.
• •Use case fit: IIQ targets professional studio photography, digital back capture and WBMP targets legacy mobile graphics, wap applications — your choice depends on which workflow stage you are serving.
